This year, BN was represented by two members of our team at the  2010 SoundCity Music Video Awards. BN Contributor, Jite Ovueraye and BN Features Editor, Glory Edozien both attended. Here are their accounts of the event.
SoundCity blasts off with the 2010 SMVAs by Jite Ovueraye
This year there have been many prestigious events and like fine wine, as time goes by they each keep getting better and better. SoundCity who have been bridging the gap in Nigerian and now African music to the rest of the world took this opportunity to push the bar even higher . The SMVAs took place on Saturday 20th November 2010 at the Eko Hotels & Suites in Lagos.

The awards were preceded by a classy and super organized poolside fashion show, with the red carpet covered by Spice TV. The celebrities and celebutants (the “IT” guys and girls of Lagos) had their pictures taken and were interviewed before going to the cordoned off poolside to feast their eyes on glamorous outfits.

As the gorgeous models meandered with style and grace down the all white catwalk which hovered over Eko hotels half Olympic sized pool, it was hard not to feel like you were elsewhere. The.… (for lack of a better word) “Effizi” was palpable and as celebrities mingled and watched the show.

ASUU-ANSU STRIKE ON COLLISION

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Anambra State University, is heading on collusion course with management of the institution, which has directed its entire staff to resume work today.

UNAD Students Give 7-day Ultimatum Against Tuition Hike:

The authorities of the University of Ado Ekiti may have set the students against Governor Kayode Fayemi as it allegedly posted on the school website that all students should pay the controversial new tuitions imposed on the students by ousted Governor Segun Oni-led administration, forcing the Students Union Government to issue a 7-day ultimatum to the governor who announced a downward review.

A statement by the SUG, spokesman, Owolabi Oluwapelumi and made available to Daily Sun over the weekend, declared that the students were disappointed in the school authority‚ insistence on the controversial tuitions despite the inaugural speech of Governor Fayemi that the fees would be reviewed downward.

Expressing confidence and hope in Governor Fayemi, the students said they were sure that the governor would make good his promise to slash the ‚

AMA Stars Party at The Nightclub New Rolling Stone

Most musicians would love to be featured in Rolling Stone. The performers, presenters and winners of Sunday's American Music Awards got their chance, kind of, when they partied post-show at the magazine's only namesake nightclub.
The Rolling Stone Restaurant & Lounge doesn't officially open until next year, but Kid Rock, Katy Perry, Jon Bon Jovi, Avril Lavigne, Ke$ha, Kelly Osbourne and other stars who appeared on the AMAs were among the first to celebrate inside the new two-story spot in Hollywood.
Perry cuddled with new husband Russell Brand on one of the club's many couches. John Legend commanded his own couch, where he canoodled with a girlfriend.
Kid Rock held court in the VIP room overlooking the downstairs dance floor, where waitresses swept by with short ribs, mini cheeseburgers, crab cakes and freshwater eel rolls.
The restaurant area upstairs is trimmed in black lacquer, with framed covers of Rolling Stone magazine lining the wall and also serving as overhead lights. The downstairs dance-club space is expansive, with star-shaped chandeliers, a DJ booth backed by classic album covers and a secret "speakeasy" tucked behind all the action.
Owner Aaron West says he plans to host a Grammy party at the location, too, before its grand opening to the public in February.

BN Excluding Video Premiere: D'Prince - Give It To Me

D'Prince received largely negative reviews for his Omoba video. As if to confound critics in an effort, he pulled together with video director Sesan literally all the stops on this one.
If you feel that Sesan has outdone themselves once again (he directed Mr.

"Fuse" - in Warri Live! MI, 2Face, J Martins put in Delta State lead on 27 December 2010

In recent years, the Niger Delta has attracted its fair share of negative publicity. The Story Behind INALÉ – BN attends the Abuja Premiere and Reviews the epic Nigerian Musical

Nollywood has been growing from strength to strength, with producers and directors learning to take their time to tell a story, instead of trying to knock four movies out in two months as they used to. These days the quality of the cinematography, editing, casting, and all-round feel of the movies have improved and the fact that they are now showing in cinemas makes the ‘movie watching’ experience even better.
INALÉ is one of these gems in the Nigerian film industry. Based on an old folk tale, this musically inclined movie has all the ingredients of a future epic. It was recently premiered in Lagos at Genesis Deluxe Cinemas, with a veritable bevy of beautiful stars and starlets coming to celebrate the great achievement which was INALÉ. About a week later, on Friday 29th of October 2010, INALÉ held its Abuja premiere.

New Music: DJ Zeez Feat. Waje - Jazz Me

DJ Zeez rocked the whole of last year with his two monster hit singles, Bobbee FC and Fokasibe. Singularly, both songs shot him away from the very humble begininngs of his debut album into mainstream spotlight. With a new found alliance with Edlyne Records, he’s out with a new pair of singles – Jazz Me with Waje and Puonuzor.

Three Musical "Rule Breakers" on One Hot Track: Awilo Longomba feat. Terry G & Timaya - Brukutu

This song had me trying to figure out how to dance Alanta and Makossa at the same time.

It is very easy to class Terry G, Timaya and Awilo on one track as Pop music overkill, still they pull it off just fine. They teamed up on this track – “Brukutu” produced by Terry G. A song like this makes it clear, that no matter how much we belittle our ‘Jollof music,’ Africa and the rest of the world are listening.

No to Nollywood? Yes to music? M.I - Introduces New Single - "Undisputed"

…I klepto-ed the game in a slow year…” — Jude “M.I” Abaga [in 1,2,3 Hip-Hop Remix]
The above line seems to properly capture the essence of M.I’s meteoric rise to uber-stardom. At the time he made his formal entrance on the scene, it was a year when Rap and Hip-Hop had given way to Pop music. Safe closely followed by the release of Talk About It, and then subsequently the mixtape, Illegal Music were his three strike coup de grace to the prevailing status quo at the time.
In the last few weeks, rumors were abound about M.I’s exit from music to movies, the claim were not denied by his camp but it is apparent that he did not put the brakes on his music career.
Undisputed is first single on the much-anticipated-soon-to-drop M.I2 album. If it takes a second to settle on you, but it’s alright, it is definitely worth the listen. You can take this like Crowd Mentality was to Talk About It. I think, the real ear popper is right around the corner.

The song will be available for free download via the Chocolate City website tomorrow.
