Three young women – Miss Anene Blessing Iruoma, 26, Miss Obiakor
Maryann Okwudili, 34 and Miss Mbechi Obiageli Susan, 38 years old – have
been nabbed by members of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) while attempting to smuggle 4.5 kilograms of narcotics, carefully hidden in their brassieres and hair wigs
All the three suspects were apprehended at the Nnamdi Azikiwe
International Airport (NAIA), Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Two of
them were to board an Egypt airline flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,
through Cairo. They were caught with 3.6 kilograms of methamphetamine's
neatly hidden in customized underwear's and hair wigs.
The third suspect, who claimed to be three months pregnant, was found
to have ingested 900 grams of substance that tested positive for cocaine.
NDLEA
Commander at the Abuja Airport, Mr. Hamisu Lawan, confirming the
development, said the suspects’ interception was made possible as a
result of an alert from the management of the Federal Airports Authority
of Nigeria (FAAN). He therefore commended FAAN for alerting the NDLEA
of possible drug concealment following a body frisk on one of the
suspects. In his words, “Anene Blessing Iruoma and Miss Obiakor Maryann
Okwudili concealed 1.7kilogrammes and 1.90kilogrammes of methamphetamine
in underwear's and hair wigs while Mbechi Obiageli Susan ingested 900
grams of substance that tested positive for cocaine.”
