The police in Lagos State on Wednesday arrested a 32-year-old man, Richard Oteku, for allegedly posing as a member of a secret cult, Eiye Confraternity, and attempting to extort N100,000 from a relation.
Oteku, who was arrested at his Ijegun home around 5.30am on Wednesday, was also accused of sending a threat text message to the relation, threatening to kill her son, studying at the University of Lagos.
The text reads; “Hello Madam. Good day. If you ever want to see your son again, pay N100,000 into AC no 0476068004528. Or your son will be dead before 12.30...Black Axe Unilag.”
Oteku told newsmen that he needed the money to obtain an international passport. He alleged that a friend gave him the idea of threatening his relation, but said he regretted his action.
Spokesman of the state police command, Mr. Frank Mba, said that the suspect’s relation informed the police about the threat.
He added that Oteku would be prosecuted.
