Citizens of Tunisia Await New Government

Tunisia's interim leaders are due to unveil a new government of national unity on Monday.News Buffet followed up and found out that the country remains in a state of emergency, with gun battles between soldiers and armed supporters of ousted president Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali throughout Sunday night.
Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi, who is holding consultations with leaders of the main Tunisian opposition parties to decide on a new government, said on Sunday that the line-up is set to be announced on Monday.

According to Maya Jribi, the head of the opposition Progressive Democratic Party or PDP, the interim leadership has agreed to exclude parties close to the former regime from the new government.
Ghannouchi added there would be "zero tolerance" for anyone threatening Tunisia's national security.
Late into Sunday night, heavy gunfire continued near the presidential palace in Carthage. A police source told AFP news agency that armed supporters of Ben Ali - some of them believed to be members of the presidential guard - had taken refuge in the palace, prompting the army to launch an assault.
Shooting was also reported near the presidential residence and the interior ministry in the centre of the capital, Tunis, where soldiers reportedly killed two gunmen.
The fighting follows the arrest on Sunday of the former head of the presidential security forces, Ali Seriati, on accusations of fomenting violence.
Tanks continue to patrol Tunis and other cities, where security remains tight.
The unrest has disrupted supplies to shops and petrol stations, leading to warnings of major food and fuel shortages.
